Retained by Serco, Means2 was asked to assess the stocking requirements for a new warehouse for the Fire & Rescue Service's national centre for major incident response. Existing characteristics of the current (and future) SKU range were examined, specifically with regard to the physical dimensions of components and assembled kits.
Significant portions of this information were unavailable - specifically regarding cube. Extensive efforts were made to trace external sources to resolve this and assessments made to allow us to understand what the future space requirements would be.
In addition it was necessary to determine workspace areas for kit assembly and service inspections for returning vehicle demount bodies. The result of this process was the distillation of data from many different sources into a single planning model that could be used to make strategic estimates of potential building requirements.
