Our first project with Tarmac was to demonstrate the effects of the likely impact of the Working Time Directive (working hours legislation) on the substantial and diverse fleet of drivers for this aggregates, asphalt, ready mix and cast concrete products business. Interfacing with SAP to extract historical trip sensitive information, together with organising driver and depot data collection surveys we were able to breakdown the elements of the diverse delivery cycles for each of the divisions and ascertain which elements would be affected by the legislation and how the effects on those elements that were could be mitigated. We were able to demonstrate that the effects would not be as disruptive as perceived by the industry with some advance planning.
Pleased with our abilities we were retained for a number of months to assist with further projects that included:
- Vehicle utilisation review.
- Mixer load miles analysis
- Supply chain review for raw materials
- Rates review analysis
